The Poitiers University Hospital (86) has decided to renovate part of its recessed lighting system, with the requirement that the existing mounting structure for the fixtures remain in place on the ceiling. This modernization of the lighting system allows for the replacement of fluorescent fixtures with more efficient, energy-saving LED fixtures.
Sfel has therefore developed a quick and cost-effective technical solution that is fully adapted to the hospital’s existing installations. A special product—consisting of a watertight housing, an interchangeable cover, and a lens—is attached from the inside to the housing of the old product using self-tapping screws and secured with a safety cable.
This custom-sized light fixture, based on our square Opali model, features recessed edges that overlap those of the housings of the products it replaces.
This quick and cost-effective lighting solution allows this hospital to modernize its lighting fixtures with fully customized and serviceable products.
Product Specifications• Installation locations: common areas (hallways, lobbies), medical areas (clean rooms, operating rooms)
• Options: Class II, tempered glass lens, IP65-rated version (from below)
Key Points of the Project
• Requirement: Replace the recessed lighting without removing the existing ceiling
• Constraint: Provide recessed lighting compatible with the existing mounting system
• Solution: A light fixture that fits into the housing of the fixture to be replaced
The different stages of lighting renovation
• Design of a custom product that screws from the inside onto the housing of the old fixture, which remains attached to the ceiling.
• Removal of the lens assembly and the interior components from each fixture to be replaced, leaving only an empty housing.
• Attachment of the replacement fixture’s body inside the housing of the old fixture, followed by the interchangeable cover and the lens assembly.
